OP - don't even think about taking that Gila into low. It is an awful fit and will likely be on someone's killboard before the night is out.
First off the Gila is primarily a drone boat, so you need really good drone skills. The fact that you have got T1 drone mods and T1 drones screams that your drone skills are poor. This is a pirate faction ship and you should be flying it with near perfect skills to get the most out of it and justify the price you pay. Not flying a pirate faction ship to make up for your lack of skills and that goes for everything that affects this ship. Drones, missiles, tank, navigation, support skills.
A Gila can only launch 2 medium drones at a time, the rest of the drone bay isn't for spares of the same type, but to allow you to ship different types so you can pick your damage type. So you should be carrying two of each type of T2 medium combat drone (Infiltrator II, Vespa II, Hammerhead II, Valkyrie II), with the final two being either EC-600s or something exotic (expensive) like a couple of 'Augmented' Hammerheads. Although if it is for missions, you can justify loading 2 spares of the preferred damage type in the final 2 slots.
It's secondary weapon system is missiles, so fit 4 of them, it is designed with 1 utility high, don't drop one of the launchers to make another utility high. But I suspect the second Drone Link Augmentator is a result of your lack of drone skills. With the skills trained you can get out to 60 Kms without any DLA.
Always T2 rig a pirate faction ship (if they fit) and if you can't afford T2 rigs, you shouldn't be in a pirate faction ship.
Always fit a MWD to the Gila, it is a kiter, not a brawler. Although in this aspect, I'm talking PvP, an AB would probably work against NPCs, but the only time you can (virtually) guarantee that is in hi sec and not war decced.
Next you need to address your experience of low sec. If you go into low sec, you are going to lose your ship. Accept that fact. You might get away with it a couple of times, but you will lose it eventually and most likely sooner rather than later. So first off lose a bunch of cheap ships while you learn what is going on. Bookmark the systems you expect to use a lot. Learn which hi sec gates are likely to be camped at what times. Get used to the adrenaline rush of combat. Analysis your loses, realise that you forgot to overheat your weapons on that close fight. Wait until you have burnt out your weapons on another fight. Realise that if you had orbited rather than just burnt away in a straight line, his hits wouldn't have been so heavy. Learn the optimal and fallout ranges of all weapon systems and which ships bonus these things or are likely to carry mods that do. Realise that when you want to GTFO, it is best to pick your outpoint and burn towards it, so you are aligned and instawarp when the point drops... So much more to learn, don't do it in a Gila. |
